ESX Server

Postby ben.actis » Mon Sep 21, 2009 11:32 pm

Talked to Jim (aka Dr Hoag) about the club server. He said we can install iESX on the club server; however, we may not be able to have a static ip or all the ports we want open. We are looking at several VMs at the moment. Talk about this in forums here.

* Dim Dim: For web conferences. Since the application is open source, we can put a VM up there which could host all of our web conferencing if Champlain doesn't block the ports we need. The Idea here is people who live in spinner but not around Burlington would be able to go this site to see meetings live.
* Game server: Run the Valve Dedicated server software, or other software
* John the Ripper Cluster: Used for net booting several machines for distributed password cracking research.

I downloaded the ISO for this, I just need to burn it onto a CD and then I can install it onto the server if you like Ben. Then we can start building on our network, it sounds like this software is pretty powerful as to what it can do! Very interested in getting this going!

Yes Ben, I am interested in setting up the Steam server. That can go on one of the servers we install on the ESX server probably.

Well if anyone has an extra dual xeon with at least 3 gigs of ram I'd like to virtualize the two servers that are at my house into one. Just sayin'
